What’s the Real Difference Between Soy and Paraffin?

Soy Wax is a natural, plant-based wax made from soybean oil. It’s biodegradable, renewable, and gives off a clean burn—perfect for those who value sustainability and eco-friendly ingredients.

Paraffin Wax, on the other hand, is a by-product of petroleum refining. It’s been around for decades and is widely used in commercial candle production due to its strong scent throw and smooth, glossy finish.

Why Does Scent Throw Differ?

Soy wax has a lower oil retention compared to paraffin, meaning it holds onto fragrance more tightly. Tip: Let soy candles cure for at least 7 to 10 days before burning. This gives the fragrance time to fully bond with the wax for a stronger scent throw.

  • Don’t use in small, unventilated spaces—it can produce more soot
  • Don’t expect long burn times unless your wick is properly sized

  • If you want bold fragrance and a flawless finish, paraffin might suit your needs.
  • For a balance of both, soy-paraffin blends offer longer burn times with improved scent performance.
