The easiest way into candle making, with no wicks to worry about.

Wax melts are the gentlest introduction to candle making, because there is no wick to size and nothing to burn. Melt, scent, pour, wait.

Method
01

Melt the wax

In a double boiler or microwave, melt the soy wax flakes gently, stirring occasionally, until completely liquid.

02

Add fragrance

Take it off the heat and stir in your essential or fragrance oils. Around 10 to 30 drops per cup, depending on how strong you want it.

03

Add colour

If you want colour, add a few drops of wax dye now and stir through.

04

Pour

Pour carefully into the silicone moulds, leaving a little space at the top.

05

Cool and set

Leave to cool completely at room temperature, then pop the melts out of the moulds.

06

Store

Keep them somewhere cool and dry.

Tips and swaps

  • Blend your scents. Lavender with chamomile, or eucalyptus with peppermint, both work beautifully.
  • Sprinkle dried lavender buds or rose petals into the mould before pouring for a prettier melt.
  • Different moulds make all the difference. Hearts, stars, whatever you fancy.

Recipe FAQs

How much fragrance should I add?
Around 10 to 30 drops per cup of wax. Start low, as you can always make the next batch stronger.
Why is the top of my melt bumpy?
The wax cooled too quickly. Let it set at room temperature rather than in the fridge, and it will finish smoother.
How long do they last?
Several weeks stored somewhere cool and dry. Each melt gives roughly 8 hours of scent in a burner.
