For the bits that sandpaper would struggle with.

Salt or sugar does the scrubbing, charcoal does the drawing out, and the oil stops it feeling like you have exfoliated with gravel. Peppermint makes the whole thing feel cold and brilliant.

Method
01

Combine

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl until evenly blended.

02

Store

Spoon into an airtight jar.

03

How to use

Massage gently onto damp skin in circles, focusing on elbows, knees and heels, then rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Tips and swaps

  • Use sugar rather than salt if your skin is on the sensitive side. It is gentler.
  • Mind the shower floor, it gets slippery.

Recipe FAQs

Should I use salt or sugar?
Sugar is gentler because the grains dissolve as you work. Use salt if you want a more vigorous scrub on tough areas like heels.
How often should I exfoliate?
Once or twice a week. Over-exfoliating strips the skin barrier and does more harm than good.
Can I use it on my face?
This one is designed for the body. It is too coarse for facial skin, so use a finer sugar and less charcoal if you want a face version.
