A three-ingredient sugar scrub that wakes up dull skin.

Level

Makes

Time

Three ingredients, and about two minutes.

Sugar is a gentler exfoliant than salt because the grains dissolve as you work, so it is much harder to overdo it. Lemon brightens, and the coconut oil leaves skin soft rather than stripped.

Method
01

Combine

Mix the sugar, coconut oil and lemon essential oil together until evenly blended.

02

Use

Massage onto damp skin in circles, then rinse with warm water.

Tips and swaps

  • Lemon oil is photosensitising, so use this at night, or keep the scrubbed skin out of direct sun.
  • Store in an airtight jar and keep water out of it.

Recipe FAQs

Why do you use sugar rather than salt?
Sugar is gentler. The grains dissolve as you work, so it is much harder to overdo it and irritate the skin.
Can I use it in the morning?
Better not. Lemon oil is photosensitising, so use it at night or keep the scrubbed skin out of direct sun.
How long does it keep?
A couple of months in an airtight jar. Keep water out of it, as that is what spoils it.
